There’s a whole lot of food to enjoy on Christmas, but the number one thing must be Christmas lunch! Wow, your guests with this Glazed Christmas Ham with Sweet and Tangy Barbeque Sauce.

Start your prep early enough to kick back and enjoy Christmas morning with all your loved ones.

Serves: 8         Cook Time: 2 hours and 15 minutes         Prep Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

• 1 half-leg ham (about 4.5kg)
• 1 cup (250ml) golden syrup
• ¼ cup (70g) tomato sauce
• 60g unsalted butter
• 2 tbs Dijon mustard
• 2 tbs fresh lemon juice
• 2 tbs white wine vinegar
• 2 tbs Worcestershire sauce
• 2 garlic cloves, very finely chopped
• 1 tsp chilli flakes

Method:

• Prepare a covered barbecue for indirect cooking. For a gas barbecue, heat one burner on medium-high and leave the other burner(s) off. For a charcoal barbecue, build a fire on one side of the charcoal grate, leaving the other side of the barbecue empty, and let burn just until the coals are covered with white ash. Do not spread out the coals.
• Line a large heavy rimmed baking tray with foil. Remove all the packaging from the ham. Run a sharp knife down the back of the ham and using your fingers, gently separate the skin from the fat. Run the knife over the fat to lightly score it all over. Place the ham on the tray and set the tray on the side of the barbecue that is off. Close the lid and leave to cook (the barbecue temperature should be about 190°C) for 1½ hours or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the ham registers 42°C.
• Meanwhile, in a medium heavy saucepan over medium heat, whisk the golden syrup, tomato sauce, butter, mustard, lemon juice, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic and chilli flakes until the butter melts and the mixture is well blended. Remove the glaze from the heat and set it aside.
• When the ham is warmed through, increase the barbecue temperature slightly (so the barbecue temperature reaches 200°C). Using a pastry brush, brush some of the glaze all over the ham. Cook the ham, basting it about every 5 mins with the glaze, for a further 45 minutes or until the thickest part of the ham registers 52°C on the meat thermometer and the ham is evenly caramelised.
• Remove the ham from the barbecue and set it aside on a carving board for 10 minutes to rest. Meanwhile, pour off the juices from the baking tray into a tall and narrow heatproof container and allow the fat to settle to the top. Skim off as much of the fat as possible. In a serving bowl, combine equal parts of the skimmed juices and the remaining glaze.
• Serve ham with the barbeque sauce.

All you will need is:

• 1 x pipe cleaner
• 1 x bag of beads
• 1 x 20cm of string or yarn

To create:

• Mould the pipe cleaner into a star shape leaving a small opening where the pipe cleaner meets.
• Thread the beads of your choice onto the pipe cleaner, leaving 1cm at the end of the pipe cleaner spare.
• Once all threaded, twist the remaining pipe cleaner together to close off the star.
• Loop the string from the tip of the star and tie it off to create the ornament hook.
• Your Christmas tree is ready to shine bright!

Vote For Your Favourite Decorated Tree This Christmas

At Robinson Road Marketplace, we love giving back and supporting the local community, particularly with providing a great environment for children to learn and grow. That’s why, this Christmas we’re giving away a total of $7500 worth of donations to local schools.

The Christmas Tree Road competition is back this year featuring 12 Christmas Trees decorated by local schools and childcare centres in your area set up for you to enjoy! Contestants are delivered blank Christmas Trees and the children get involved to come up with their own unique stories, themes and colour palettes to bring their trees to life. You are now able to visit all of the trees created and vote for your favourite!

To vote for your favourite Christmas Tree:

1. Visit the centre and follow the Christmas Tree Road to decide on your favourite tree
2. Scan the QR code using your phone camera to open the voting link
3. Make your selection of Christmas tree to vote and fill out the form

The best 4 tree designs voted by you will win a cash prize! Voting for the competition will close on the 14th of December so be sure to head in-store before then for a chance to have a look at the wonderful displays and pick the one you love. Don’t forget to watch out to see if your favourite wins too!

Jenna has recently joined the team at Aspley Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic as their new Massage Therapist!

Jenna has 8 years of experience in deep tissue massage, remedial massage, cupping and dry needling. She is also skilled in trigger point release, lymphatic drainage, relaxation and pregnancy massage.

Deep tissue massage can help with muscle pain by reducing sensitivity of the area and increasing blood flow, allowing the muscle to move with more freedom. It is great for relieving general stiffness. Deep tissue massage can also help with anxiety as it has a calming effect on the body by increasing circulation and relaxing tense muscles – this gives the body a feel-good effect.

Remedial massage is a powerful form of manual soft tissue therapy that effectively reduces your pain and restores function to your muscles, nerves, fascia and other connective tissues. Jenna combines deep tissue massage with remedial massage and dry needling target to local tissue impairments.

Jenna is currently studying the Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy part-time. Outside of work and study she loves gardening and maintaining general fitness.

With nearly half of Australians working at a desk, let’s make sure you haven’t forgotten how to sit correctly at your computer and set up your workspace to support your posture and spinal health.

Whether working from home or in an office here are some simple tips to help improve your posture while at your desk:

Get the Ergonomics Right
Ensuring the equipment you use is ergonomically sound can be great in supporting your spinal health. For instance if you work off a laptop, use a separate mouse and keyboard so you can elevate the screen to your eye level with the help of a few props.

Practice Good Posture
A supportive and ergonomic chair is key in helping your posture and spinal health while working. Sit on the chair with your feet either flat on the floor or supported by a footrest. Arms should be relaxed by your side (wrist straight when using your mouse and elbows at 90-110 degrees when typing), with your posture relaxed and tall.

Try a Standing Desk
If there is an opportunity to be at a standing desk, even better, as this will be helpful for most people. If standing, maintain an upright relaxed posture. To help prevent tilting the hip to one side, place a footrest underneath the desk and alternate each foot resting on it.

Walking Breaks
Sitting for long periods of time can be harmful to your spinal health, so make a conscience effort to take breaks by scheduling in mini breaks every 30 minutes to keep your body moving throughout the day. During lunch breaks or even after work is also a great time to head out for a walk to get some fresh air and stretch your legs. Walking is also beneficial for your spinal health and overall wellbeing.
